Review by The Presse (Journalist Jean Cossetto)

Yesterday evening in Vevey Switzerland, Carter Larsen gave a piano recital in the delightful setting of the Grenette Pocket Theatre, surrounded by lithographs of Dali, Buffet, van Dongen etc.

Carter Larsen...impressed the audience with his spirited interpretation of the romantic composers.  The artist lived up to his reputation by including in his programme the great romantic artists, including himself...the last of the romantics?

The critics of Mendelssohn's day were stunned by the amazing technical brilliance and modernism for his time, the Rondo Capriccioso Opus 14 would foreshadow Liszt.  Carter Larsen gave a lucid, alert interpretation coupled with wonderful resonance, executed with panache.

Carter Larsen himself composes.  Appealing, colorful, charming and romantic music.  We do not know if the composer was trying to tell us something, but the message certainly came across! The audience was captivated by the charm of "La Lumiere de L'Amour" a most impressive piece, illuminated with elaborate flourishes.

"The Seagulls of Capri" equally appealed with its virtuoso passages, arpeggios and triplets played with style and enthusiam.  The melancholy and passion of "Bridges and Beyond" was expressed with eloquence and brio.  "Film Fantasia", an extended improvisation, played with abandon and depth of feeling, delighted the audience who heartily applauded the composer-pianist.

Composed in the second year of Franz Liszt's pilgrimage "Il Sonetto 104 del Petrarca", recalls the torments of love.  Carter Larsen caressed the keys and carried his audience so far into another world that they almost forgot to applaud...

The most famous and most cherished of the Chopin Scherzos, Opus 31 in B Flat minor, with its diffucult triplets, bewitched the listener.  The pianist inspired, at ease and in brilliant form, played admirably bringing this dazzling and appealing piece to life.  Warmly applauded, Carter Larsen added for our pleasure (and his) no less than four encores all in the exquisite romantic mood."
